The Story Behind CAPF Creations
I’ve been crafty for as long as I can remember. What started as an early love for glitter, markers, crayons, paints, play doh, and all things creative evolved as I grew. The women in my life influenced my interest in the fiber arts. I had a quilt made by one of my Great Grandmas on my childhood bed and some of her other quilts were in our house. My Maternal Grandma was an avid crocheter and cross stitcher. She taught me how to cross stitch at an early age, a skill I was able to revisit and use to make beautiful Christmas stockings for my two children. She also taught me the beginning basics of crochet, which I then expanded on via the internet, books and practice. My Paternal Grandma was also skilled at crocheting and needlepointing. She had given up these arts by the time I was growing up, but I possess beautiful projects she had made, including the baby dress I was baptized in. My mom’s primary fiber art is quilting and other sewing. She was also able to do basic crochet and knitting, as well as cross stitch, but her love is for sewing. She taught me to sew by hand and machine from an early age. She also taught me the basic knit stitch, which I used to make a scarf years ago, but I didn’t knit again until this year.
I love creating something beautiful and new with seemingly simple materials. As I grew into my hobbies, I determined that I wanted to be able to share my talents with others. This was how the idea of CAPF Creations was born. I initially wanted my shop to focus on crocheted items. However, as I worked to determine what I would sell, I realized I get a bit bored with making the exact same thing repeatedly. Over time, I realized my shop could be more meaningful if I shifted my focus. Instead of selling only premade items, the main focus will be creating mementos out of meaningful fabrics. This could be a quilt made from a baby's outgrown clothes, a quilt made from T-shirts that hold many memories, a stuffy made from the shirt(s) of a loved one, etc. I aim to help others preserve their precious memories while carrying on the legacy of the women who came before me. In addition to my custom memory items, I will also have some smaller pre-made offerings as well as exclusive drops of handmade products.
So, what's up with the name "CAPF Creations"? C-A-P-F are the first initials of my husband, me and our 2 children. My family is the center of my universe, so no other name felt right. CAPF is pronounced as one word, instead of saying the individual letters.
